Tanzania categorizes its wild areas, each with its own set of rules, resulting in a diverse range of walking safari practices and standards. We have some excellent walking safaris in Tanzania with excellent guides, all of whom were chosen after meeting them in person. Some of the real highlights of fly-camping trips are walking safaris.

Walks in National Parks must follow TANAPA’s (Tanzanian National Park Authorities) strict rules, which are in place to ensure the safety of visitors. No more than six guests may go on a walk at any given time, and they must be accompanied by at least one TANAPA-certified armed ranger who must follow specific walking routes. Because these regulations are new to Tanzania’s national parks, we would only recommend walking safaris from camps that we know have a track record of consistently providing good walking safaris with well-established guides.

The Game Division, a looser organization with murky laws, is in charge of managing Tanzania’s game reserves, which has led to a discrepancy in walking safari standards. Walking safaris can be hit or miss because they are so dependent on the experience and expertise of the guide. These walking safaris are fantastic, and all of the camps we suggest employ their own in-house, highly trained guides who abide by the camp’s own standards.
