South Africa's Kruger National Park and the adjacent Sabi Sand Game Reserve together form one of the greatest wildlife destinations on earth — and this 6-day luxury safari gives you the very best of both. Your journey begins in Johannesburg with a scenic drive along the famous Panorama Route, stopping at God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and the Blyde River Canyon — the third largest canyon in the world. Your Journey, Day by Day
6 carefully curated days across Panorama Route, Sabi Sand, Kruger National Park
Day 1
Johannesburg to Panorama Route
Depart Johannesburg early morning and drive east toward the escarpment of Mpumalanga. Stop at the breathtaking viewpoints along the Panorama Route — God's Window offers sweeping views across the Lowveld to Mozambique on clear days, while Bourke's Luck Potholes reveal dramatic rock formations carved by millennia of water erosion. Continue along the rim of the Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world and the largest green canyon on earth. Arrive at your first lodge in the late afternoon, nestled in the foothills near the Sabi Sand reserve.
Day 2
Enter Sabi Sand Game Reserve — First Game Drives
After breakfast, transfer into the exclusive Sabi Sand Game Reserve — one of Africa's premier private wildlife areas. Check into your luxury lodge, where your glass-fronted suite overlooks a waterhole frequented by elephants and buffalo. After a gourmet lunch, embark on your first afternoon game drive in an open Land Rover with your ranger and expert Shangaan tracker. Sabi Sand's traversing rights mean your vehicle can follow animals across property boundaries, dramatically improving sighting quality. Expect close encounters with elephant breeding herds, giraffe, zebra, and with luck, your first leopard sighting.
Day 3
Full Day Sabi Sand — Leopard Country
Sabi Sand is renowned as the leopard capital of Africa, and today's game drives are designed to maximise your chances of encountering these magnificent cats. The pre-dawn drive, guided by spotlight and tracker expertise, follows fresh leopard tracks through the sand river beds. The reserve's leopards are habituated to vehicles and can be observed at remarkably close range — grooming, hunting, or resting in the branches of marula trees. Beyond leopards, the morning drive delivers Big Five encounters: white rhino at a waterhole, a lion pride on a kill, and buffalo herds. After brunch at the lodge, relax at the spa or the infinity pool. The afternoon drive ventures to different concession areas, targeting species missed in the morning.
Day 4
Bush Walk & Transfer to Kruger Area
The morning begins with a guided bush walk — a completely different safari experience on foot. Your armed ranger leads you through the bush, teaching you to read animal signs, identify trees and birds, and understand the intricate web of life in the African bushveld. Encounter termite mounds, dung beetle activity, and possibly larger game at a safe distance. After brunch, check out of Sabi Sand and transfer to a luxury lodge on the border of Kruger National Park. The afternoon game drive enters Kruger through a private gate, exploring the southern section where the Sabie River attracts large concentrations of wildlife.
Day 5
Full Day Kruger National Park
Dedicate the full day to exploring Kruger National Park, South Africa's flagship wildlife reserve. The early morning drive heads north along the Sabie River, one of the park's most productive wildlife corridors. Stop at historic Skukuza Camp for a coffee break overlooking the river, then continue to Lower Sabie where large herds of elephants and buffalo gather. The afternoon game drive explores different habitats — from the basalt plains north of the river (excellent for cheetah and wild dog) to the granite koppies where klipspringers and rock hyrax perch. A special bush braai (barbecue) dinner is prepared at a private site within the reserve, complete with local wines and campfire stories.
Day 6
Final Game Drive & Return to Johannesburg
One last early morning game drive in Kruger to catch the golden hour and the wildlife at its most active. Return to the lodge for a full breakfast, then check out and begin the scenic drive back to Johannesburg. Stop for lunch in one of the charming Lowveld towns en route. Arrive in Johannesburg in the late afternoon, in time for evening flights. Depart with memories of leopard encounters in Sabi Sand, Big Five drives in Kruger, and the stunning scenery of the Panorama Route — a comprehensive South African safari experience.
